Customs agent accused of smuggling drug money, guns through Atlanta airport mydesert.com The Desert Sun: "U.S. Customs agent working at Atlanta’s airport is accused of using his badge to smuggle guns and drug money past airport security.A tip last year led prosecutors to investigate the Agent Devon Samuels of Stockbridge, Ga., resulting in the seizure of 700,000 ecstasy tablets - worth $2.8 million - from a house in Chamblee, Ga. It was the ninth largest ecstasy seizure in U.S. history and the largest in 2010, authorities said.
“The severity of Samuels’ actions can’t be (overstated),” said David D’Amato of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement
. “He sold himself to the highest bidder. ... By bringing down Samuels, we’re cutting off the head of the snake and effectively dismantling a drug trafficking organization which operated throughout the metropolitan Atlanta area.”
A federal grand jury here indicted 15 people as a result of the drug investigation.
The defendants were in it simply for the money, said Rod Benson of the Drug Enforcement Administration."
