Drug gang king pin jailed over 22 tonnes of cocaine and cannabis - Manchester Evening News: "members of a drug-smuggling gang which flooded the streets of Britain with cocaine and cannabis worth more than £100m have been jailed.
Michael Pollard, 47, of Rydal Crescent, Worsley, played a 'significant managerial role' as the 'director' of the north-west element of the national and international operation, a court was told.
The gang attempted to import around 22 tonnes of Class A and B drugs into the UK between February 2007 and April 2009, mainly from Spain. Rented offices in Manchester and Bolton were used as a front.
Liverpool Crown Court was told Pollard's role was to ensure that drugs were 'distributed' across the country from the north west. He was jailed for 23 years.
Pollard's brother-in-law Trevor Holland, 32, of Brazley Avenue in Horwich, Bolton, was told by a judge that he played a 'significant role' in organising and renting offices and units to act as 'gateways' so consignments could be smuggled into the country.
The court heard Holland was involved in 29 consignments. He was jailed for 20 years.
Both Pollard and Holland denied conspiracy to smuggle cocaine and cannabis but were found guilty after trial."
