Jóna Denný Sveinsdóttir, has been sentenced to six and a half years in prison in Peru for drug smuggling.

Sveinsdóttir, who was born in 1972 and has five children, was arrested upon arrival to the Jorge-Chavez Airport in Lima in March 2010 with more than two kilos of cocaine inside her clothes. She was on her way to Norway after having spent two weeks in Peru, ruv.is reports.
Since her arrest, Sveinsdóttir has been in custody in the Chorrillos detention facility for women in Lima.
In a news story from AFP in December, it was revealed that she had participated in a cooking contest along with 24 other inmates from various countries, who are all serving sentences for drug smuggling.
Sveinsdóttir’s brother told RÚV that they are hoping that she only has to serve two and a half years of her sentence. Her family has been able to contact her through email and she says that the conditions at the prison are all right."
